Aeotec Multisensor Motion Detector
Check out our article on the Aeotec Multisensor Motion Detector
The Aeotec Multisensor version 6 is the latest sensor from Aeon Labs to feature 6 sensors & Z-Wave technology but in a smaller package. The Aeotec Multisensor is really 6 sensors in one: a motion sensor, temperature sensor, light sensor, vibration sensor, UV sensor and humidity sensor.
The motion sensor has a 5 metre range and a 120° field of view and the motion data can be used for everything from security to energy saving.
The temperature sensor is an incremental unit which capable of measuring between -10 up to 50°C accurately and reporting the temperature variations back to a smart home gateway.
The humidity sensor offers incremental monitoring of a humidity to control fans, automated windows and vents, dehumidifiers and humidifiers.
The light sensor is digital device measuring the level of light in any room while the vibration sensor is a seismic unit which can sense any slight vibrations which can often be signs of an intruder breaking in or attempting to tamper with the sensor. They'll also be able to record subtle seismic activity within your home.
The UV sensor accurately measures ultraviolet light so the light in each room can be managed through automated curtains, shades and of course lighting.
The Aeotec Multisensor 6 can be run on mains power using the included USB cable but obviously has battery backup and uses the 5th generation Z-Wave chipset for improved battery life. According to Aeotec the device is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use, however the Multisensor 6 is not weather sealed, so by outdoor use they obviously mean cover porch areas or similar sheltered area. The sensor is pretty compact and unobtrusive so can be placed almost anywhere, measuring just 2.9 x 4 x 5.4 inches while weighing just half a pound.
When the Aeon Labs Multi Sensor detects IR changes within its viewing window, it will send radio signals to associated Z-Wave devices and also can report temperature and lighting levels in the immediate vicinity. Sensitivity levels can be configured to avoid unintentional triggering and false alertsplus the sensor comes with an easy to use back-plate mounting so can be mounted flat against walls and or a swivel arm mount can be used. This sensor id future proofed as the firmware is updatable by the consumer with the latest Z-Wave protocol and commands.
This latest version of the excellent Aeotec Multisensor performs well and offers amazing features with 6 individual sensors contained in one compact unit.
